Conventional static test methods are not appropriate to evaluate glass dissolution behavior at an arbitrarily-fixed condition due to compositional change of the solution with glass dissolution. In this study, we applied a newly-devised micro-channel flow-through test method to measurement of the initial dissolution rates of Japanese simulated waste glasses, JAEA-P0798 and JNFL-KMOC, at arbitrarily-fixed conditions and we evaluated temperature and pH dependence of glass dissolution. The results showed that the initial dissolution rate increased with temperature and had "V-shaped" pH dependence at each temperature.

Dai-7-Kai Saishori, Risaikuru Bukai Semina Tekisuto, p.172 - 173, 2011/01

The automatic fire alarm system installed in the Tokai Reprocessing Plant consists of more than 5,000 detectors in about 40 facilities for the moment. In this system, 57 non-fire cases have occurred for about 10 years from January 2001 to December 2010. and about half of these cases was due to the condensation of water vapor generated on the sensor. Therefore, the prevention of condensation is necessary to reduce such false alarms, and the measure for prevention of condensation has been taken by installing a mount for the detector basement. This mount facilitates that the detector does not contact directly to the surface of ceiling where is likely to change an environment due to changeable temperature and humidity. As a result, false alarms caused by condensation have not been found on the detectors with the mounts. This paper reports the details of the improved fire alarm system, and cause/measures for false alarms.

no journal, ,

The negative pressure control valve is reliable apparatus which has been used in many nuclear facilities. In recent years, there are some troubles on those valves in CPF (Chemical Reprocessing Facility) by the aged deterioration because the valves were kept using for more than 25 years after facility had operated. Therefore, we have been carrying out renewal of driving units of the valves to assure performance of negative pressure control function and to keep stability of operation of the facility. In this presentation, we report knowledge provided through the renewal work, such as the renewal procedure, the deterioration situation of components and the cause of troubles.

To promote and facilitate the actinide research, close cooperation with the facilities and sharing of technical and scientific information must be very important and effective. The Japan Actinide Network, J-ACTINET, has been established since March 2008. One of the main activities of the J-ACTINET is the training and education of young scientists and graduate students. The J-ACTINET summer school 2009 and 2010 were held in Ibaraki and Kansai, respectively, where graduate students and young scientists had an experience in actinide handling and experiments. In the framework of "The training and education of nuclear energy under the Japan actinide network", which started in December, 2010 and will end in March, 2013, J-ACTINET winter school for simulation and modeling and summer school for actinide experiments will be held for graduate students and young scientists, and J-ACTINET will give them chances to attend the summer school in Europe and international scientific conferences.

Development of high-level liquid waste (HLW) conditioning technology for advanced nuclear fuel cycle was conducted for the purpose of the reduction of potential problems in the verification process for HLW. The present report introduces the outline of the research and development, which consists of Mo-Pd-Ru separation technology and advances treatment technology for dissolution residue.

Immobilization of cesium by zeolites and characterization of ceramic solid forms

Tomiyama, Shin*; Mimura, Hitoshi*; Niibori, Yuichi*; Yamagishi, Isao; Morita, Yasuji

no journal, ,

The immobilization of Cs has been studied by the calcination of the Cs-form of various kinds of mordenites. In this study, the effect of various parameters such as calcining temperature and time, components in mordenites, conditions for cold and hot pressing, on the immobilization of Cs in ceramic products are evaluated by using X-ray diffractometry (XRD), density balance (Archimedes' method), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electron probe microanalysis (EPMA). Results showed that re-crystallization to the stable ceramic solid forms of CsAlSi$$_{5}$$O$$_{12}$$ was achieved only in calcination of Synthetic Mordenite-C which contains Ti and Fe as binder. The Cs-form mordenites were pelletized into a disk by cold isostatic pressing.
